I went home and checked the sweep valve settings. My shocks have 44 clicks total. What I said in my review is correct. Now at 16 clicks counter-clockwise from full damping.

unless I misunderstood Howard you want to go full to less dampening then back it down to 14 clicks for initial setting, beyond 16 clicks has no effect, I was concerned because my shocks have 2 different amounts of clicks 43 and 36, he said it didn't matter, now I wonder if I misunderstood him.

Clockwise to fully open, then counter clockwise 14 clicks is generally your starting point

Clockwise to fully open (NO CLOSED/You are closing your needle valve to allow no oil to bypass the piston), then counter clockwise (YES, you are opening the needle valve to allow some of the oil to bypass the piston and run down the hollow shaft and out the 2 holes under the piston during compression only) 14 clicks is generally your starting point. In rebound the oil bypasses the rebound valve stack and past the needle valve than out the needle valve seat and out of the top of the piston shaft.
Piston & ports
This means that more dampening, there is more oil going through the ports of the piston and the shim stacks are providing the resistance to change. When you use less dampening or Lefty-Lucy, you are opening up the needle valve and more oil is bypassing the piston ports and escaping through the hollow shaft to the other side of the piston.

Please close the shock sweep valve which is righty tighty looking from the bottom in my last aforementioned post. The needle valve is closed and you have as much dampening or resistance to change as possible that the shocks can provide. If you open the up some as to have SOME of the oil bypass the shim stacks, you are now using less available dampening thus making your shocks less resistant to change or weaker. Depending on the user and riders/bike weight somewhere around 16 clicks out from fully closed is starting to let too much oil bypass the piston. Turn it out too much and you will turn these shocks to just springs on a stick. Forget about how many clicks out as you can not use them. Look at the tie wrap on the shaft and make sure you are not bottoming out, use as much stroke as you can but remember those 1 1/2" long bump stops have 1 1/2" of stroke under them. The most you are going to get is maybe loosing 1/2" of stroke for safety sake.

I purchased a large diesel truck to pull an 24' enclosed trailer that I am looking to buy. The purpose of this trailer to to haul a few bikes and show equipment to Daytona & other venues. We going to give suspension seminars to anyone who wishes to listen. We are currently gathering up teaching tools such as shock cut-a-ways and clear sides shocks to show a few phenomenons concerning what goes on inside of a shock absorber. I will have several examples of different companies shocks and we will take them apart and show you what is inside of them and how they work. Very few companies show you what exactly they are selling and I am going to change that. This will be a periodically ongoing seminar throughout the week of Bike Week. We are securing 30' of area located on the east side of the "Fan Walk" of Daytona International Speedway. More on this event later. There has been no one I have ever seen who has ever put on this kind of content. We will present just the facts and hardware you can see.
The purpose of these seminars are to educate the general Harley Davidson riding community.
