I recently converted my FXDF to a single headlight in anticipation of my fairing install. I have been riding it like this for a bit and I love the new look. This is a std 5 3/4 headlight from a sporty. Changes the look of the bike. Pic.
If anyone wants help making the conversion let me know, I struggled with it forever only to find the easiest way ever to do it without snipping wires.
When you buy a single headlamp assembly on eBay or classifieds or whatever, make sure the wiring harness is intact. Also look for one with a mounting block. I bought mine on eBay for $56.
Trace the wiring from the headlight to the rubber grommet in the right side of the frame neck. Pull the rubber grommet (it takes convincing), and yes it intentionally has a split, you didn't tear it while trying to pull it.
Once the grommet is out, pull your wiring, the stock wiring harness will be right there. Snap out the existing harness for the new one, bolt on the new light and whammy, single headlight. It is exactly plug and play
I had my heart set on a FB until I saw the head lights. Looked like bug eyes to me so it was a no go. I went with the SB instead. I've seen a few FB's with single head lights and I'm like "damn" they look good !
