Never had any problems with the hidden antenna. When we go on long rides where AM / FM stations are scarce I usually used my XM or MP3 players. CB was just used as an intercom
No issues, probably somewhat of a reduction in range with it, but I can't really tell. It gets all the local stations that it used to, no problem. And we also usually stick to the 3,000+ songs on the memory stick anyway. I always check the weather on my phone at gas/pee stops, so we rarely use the radio at all.
But when you have a big duffel bag on the rack and need to get in there on a long trip, it sure is nice not having to deal with anything sticking up in the way. I think we're a lot less likely to break the lid hinges now, and definitely can't bust the antenna mount.
Easy install, too. eBay, I think, it was like fifteen bucks. I left the original wire and the little stub that the stock antenna mounts on; I need to get an acorn nut and a chrome spacer around it yet, or something to make it look a little nicer, though.
OH, if you've got a Rushmore, make sure to get one with the correct connector, it's not the normal banana jack thing any more. They "improved" those now.
