Harley Used To Be About Bikes Not Lifestyle
I wore a hole in the heel of my left boot where the heel shifter rubs. Does that count?
anyone who tows their bike and then gets dressed up in costum. just might be an actor (as in cop) not that i'm doing anything wrong, but this does go on. i'm leery of anyone i don't know that acts this way. nothing wrong with towing as there is different reason people have to do it, but normally you can spot a phoney a long ways off.
Thats what a group of us does, pick a place 90 to 120 miles a way, ride there for lunch and then a different route home.
I see it all the time at Daytona, Panama City, Sturgis. Trailer in, put the costume on, then ride. Easy to spot, drag their feet if under 10 mph, can't park. Scared to lean in a curve. At the 75th saw four different people drop bikes on Needles hwy. They were just trying to go way to slow for the curve.
I hate those people with the pristine garage queen. Hard to sell my 2 year old bike with 45,xxx mies when there are four 2 year old bikes with less than 5000 miles for sale.
Far be it for me to tell anyone how to spend their money, but if someone can't ride 90 miles then maybe riding a motorcycle isn't for them. And when they pretend that they do ride (the three miles into town) they've not fooling anyone. Well, except the others that towed into town their 90 miles.
The good news is that someone will be buying their pristine garage queen a year or two down the road when they get a new bike to tow around.

Although I don't have a CVO, I ride the crap out of my bikes. I'm never going to get much out of my bike if/when I sell. And I'm still putting money into it. You can't put a price on our enjoyment.

I've never really bought into the "biker" image thing. I really like Harleys as a motorcycle, but that is as far as it goes for me. I tried being a member of our local HOG chapter, but it just wasn't for me.
I guess you could call me a loner. I wear a police style outer jacket, an HJC helmet, gloves from another supplier, boots from Big 5 Sporting goods. No tattoos, no branded clothing. I do have a HD skull cap, and a couple of old Harley riding caps. In my garage i have one of those "screw it, let's ride" signs and "Harley Heaven".
Fifty years ago, I was a member of San Berdoo M/C. We rode bikes with chromed fenders and tanks. We wore black Western style trousers, turquoise shirts Western style with black piping and collar points. Western boots, of course. The half helmets had flying spoked wheels on either side and a rudimentary map of California across the top. We competed in the "best dressed" contests at poker runs and won many. It was fun in those days. Now I'd rather just ride with one or two of my close friends and enjoy the putt. Don't need the image stuff, not at all.
