So what about the AT28's and the crossovers? Are we to assume the same issue with the crossovers being opposite of what marked? If I remember correctly the at28's are black/red wires and the crossovers are negative dashed and black like the picture posted in an earlier posting.
Or better than that, is the assumption that ALL tweeter crossovers that came with the in/out wires with one black and one with the negative dashes are backwards wired?
Tha attached pics are of a set of crossovers showing the crossovers wired accordingly, input from amp negative going to dashed line black and positive to solid black wire and output from crossover dashed black wire to tweeter silver wire and solid black wire to red tweeter wire. The red/silver wire in the second pic is of the at28's pre wired tweeter wire.
Is this a correct wiring or is this dang crossover backwards on both in and out?
I just did my install yesterday, using the AWs and BT30s, I wired them like T said using negative out of amp to solid colored wire on crossover{ which is marked -} + out of amp to wire with dashed line on crossover which is marked +. Then coming out of crossover I hooked the dashed wire that is marked + on the crossover box to the solid wire on the BT30 which is also supposed to be +. Then the solid wire coming out of crossover marked - to the dashed wire on the BT30 which is supposed to be the negative. Believe me I know it sounds confusing, but DD said the wires are backwards to the actual markings on the crossover box. So after talking with T and DD and Alex at BAL this is what I did and it sounds AWSOME. I was pretty upset before I actually did this, I sent Alex an E-mail venting my frustrations telling him I wanted to just throw it all away and forget about it, glad I didn't because as I say it turned out to be an AWSOME sounding set up.
Thanks to T, Alex at BAL, and Sly I now have a killer set-up.
Also sorry for venting ALEX I know it wasn't your fault.
DD should fix this problem so others don't have to go through this!!
Is this also the way that the AT28'S should be wired with the AW'S ? SF
Yes, because the 30s and 28s r using the same crossover.
The issue is the crossover wiring not following industry standard markings not the tweets. If u ignore the wire marking on the crossover wire and follow the actual marking on the crossover itself u should be good to go.
From what I understand, these crossovers previously used red and black wire that matched industry standards and crossover markings but the subcontractor changed up the wiring without including DD in that process.
Use the markings on the crossover and ignore the wire markings and all is good. Better yet throw some of your own markings (tape) on the crossover wires (driven by the marking on the crossover) and it will be cave man proof during the install.
If u look at Tes's pics of the crossover it has a + on the box but a striped wire coming out of the box. No bueno as the industry standard is + equals a plain wire and - equals neg/earth wire.
All other DD components follow industry standards so ignore the wire markings on the cross wires.
Sounds Killer. Softy pm'd yesterday saying he was ready to tackle it and hadn't heard back. End result sounds phenomenal. I must say this mid tweeter combo is a slam dunk.
