Default Taking off the California Charcoal Canister

Hello H.D.F., been a lurker but recently bought a 2009 Nightster and figured I'd become a member. Got a sweet deal on the bike with fairly low miles and having a blast riding! Been riding dirt bikes and ATVs here and there, built a cafe racer and had always liked the Harleys. 2 months in and I can't put the bike away. Hahaha

Anyways, quick break down...
2009 Nightster
7,500miles
Vance&hines exhaust that I heat wrapped
Unknown filter
Just put new Biltwell grips on a Biltwell bar that previous owner installed.

Question is that I want to get rid of the charcoal canister from California emissions b.s. but the dealer said it will void my warranty if not tuned correctly? I know how to take the stupid thing off but don't know anything specific on how to "tune" it and the H.D.D. dude didn't want to say it. Anyone knows anything about this or is it just b.s.? Just take the lines off, plug the carb hose, hide the fuel vapor line and remove the canister and call it a day?

Charcoal canister does not affect tuning or performance.
The 09 is way out of warranty period.
One hose is routed from the gasoline tank vapor space through a vapor valve to the challenge coal canister.
The other canister hose is routed to the air intake manifold.
For other 49 states the hose from the vapor valve is routed directly to atmosphere.
Benefit of removing canister is weight reduction.

Extended warranty was purchased by previous owner...Anyways, just want that Canister out of the way cause it looks ugly and trying to achieve a clean look. Need to know when I remove the charcoal canister, will I have to do any specific tuning as to removing any check engine lights or ECU stuff.

To my knowledge, extended warranties are not transferable..upon sale or trade in, previous owner can get a refund of pro-rated warranty cost.

I have had refunds on my extended warranty when I have traded my bike. Comes to me direct.

If I am wrong, please advise

That can just holds vapors from the gas tank until you start the engine, then vacuum purges the can into the manifold. It's totally passive device. I got my bike on November 24, 1990 and the can was gone on November 25. Just plug off any vacuum ports on your manifold that are left open.

If you do remove it, don't throw it away...they make great Bongs (if not for you, then someone else)

2009 what warranty are you under? did you get one from the dealer?? my extended warranty ends in 2018 from my 2013 48.i pulled mine. i just rubber capped where the hose come off the intake and ran my tank vent hose just to the bottom. it some regards it wasn't wroth removing, but my aftermarket tank vent line is on the other side of the tank. I i needed to free up space. anything can void you warranty, full exhuast, A/c, Tuner. but the dealer would have to prove your "mod" is what caused any issues. if you were to take legal action if say your motor blew up and they said it was the smog delete that made your motor blow up its not covered. Technicality a TUNE voids you warranty. if its not the HD download. Cali rider as well.

Drinktothat421, yea the extended warranty is from the dealer. At least that's what was told to me by the previous owner. He said that before I purchased the bike from him, he had the rear tire replaced, oil changed, and some other things, and they all checked out. Anyways, the way the HD service tech said about the tuning after the smog bs removal made me question why would there even be an issue with the bike unless I mess up the removal that badly. I think I'm just gonna wait another month and take it in for the final HD service before the warranty expires. Then go to town on it, this bike is gonna go through some major transformation, bobber in Jap style...Thanks y'all for the inputs
