That doesn't explain blowing gas out the carb though. Can you talk to the previous owner and see if he gave up on it for the same reason? Isnt it supposed to draw gas on a downstroke (intake valve opens) if you have an intake valve open on a upstroke wont it push the gas out instead of draw it in. I'm just asking. Also don't some cams come with 4 degree or so advance option. Could that have an effect on your module ? Note I never owned an EVO so these are generalized questions.
Previous owner pulled it to install a bigger c.i. Crate engine just cause he wanted to go bigger. Ran into some $$ problems around xmas time and that is when I bought it off of him. Don't know what else to try!! Feel like pushing it out to the curb and letting the scrappers pick it up.
And yes I follows those instructions. I'm starting to think I might have a bad ignition, they are mass produced so anything is possible.
Could be. Something is not right here.
Pull your cam chest cover off again and verify that the angle between the timing mark on the gear and the indexing tab at the end of the cam is at least in the ballpark of looking like this:
That way at least you will know that the cam is not way out of time.
Don't give up ! It will wind up being one of those duh moments and some day you will laugh and also one day you will be the expert to help out someone in need.

I will double check that tonight when I get home from work. Thanks.
I think I read about the pushrods being diff. sizes and color matched to each rocker, and with p. owner up grade you may have a pushrod holding a valve open. if you push it to the curb call me I'd go far to scrap that for ya.

id say mine looks really close to that.

double checked to, and it does have adjustable pushrods. Also this engine is supposed to be a 1990 which would have a crankcase breather by the oil pump which it does have. Also noticed it has the breather in the heads like the later evo's. so maybe at some point someone did some work to it.

If it has adjustables work was done for sure. You need to go back to the start by adjusting those push rods to guarantee they're in there right. Then install the ignition. There are plenty of videos on the net that show in detail how to do this. There are also videos showing how to do the ignition. If you follow, to the letter, the official instructions, the engine will run.
I had a problem putting the same ignition in my '98 ultra when I changed it over to carb from EFI. Make sure you are at TDC on the front cylinder, it has to be on the compression stroke. Although I pulled the timing plug and got the correct mark in the window, I also used the straw method to ensure that the piston was at the top of its travel. Lower the bike off the jack so the rear wheel doesn't turn and rotate the motor. Check you ignition cup and make sure the screw it tight (but not too tight, it will strip)
Install your Ultima Ign straight up and down, the turn clockwise until the red LED goes out. Make sure that you have the switch for dual fire and single fire set properly! This is where I had and issue (how I learned I needed bifocals!!)

ive tried it every way possible, even with the switch all turned off. Meaning voes was off, advance was set to curve 1, rev limiter at 5500, and switch #6 I tried it both on and off so both single fire or dual fire didn't help anything.
