Now, let's just hope Texas will let you register it. I hope you got "Bills of sale" for everything.

First, congrats. I agree she is rough but from your description of riding her home, which is also encouraging, the bike sounds good. Basic maintenance would be the place to start, change all the fluids, including brake fluid, etc.

And she may be slightly more presentable with a good bath. Yes she has some rust, but damn that bike is filthy. Thanks for posting pics.

Check your engines --- 1340 --1st year of production was '80 but actually '79 and found on many '78's

1200cc---- 10 fins on cyl jugs
1340 ---- 9 fins on cyl jugs

Cool, I have a lot to learn about shovel head. The 76 motor has 9 fins and the 79 has 10 fins.

I havent even even had a chance to mess with the bike other than put it on a battery charger.

What a nice find! Shovels are one of my favorite looking motors. They scream retro.

You got a great find , put that 1340 back on that frame
You have one of H-D's ---- " not supposed to be like that "
'79 to'82 was anything goes , a time that AMF and H-D was splitting
