Default What do I have?

I posted this in "other" with no response. I'm new to the forums, but I now theres a shovel guy out there somewhere that can help me. if you can...thanks in advance.
Hi, I have '72 flh, with what I was told is a '92 evo engine. Most parts are '72 or close, however the frame is aftermarket, probably from the same era. I was wondering if anyone could me identify the frame and/or the motor. I have tried through the internet with no luck. Tha frame # is 12r1ca1046133**** The engine # is*blln03@@@@*. Thank You, Jimmy

Does your title say "Harley Davidson " on it?

Well, I don't know how to trace the frame directly except to say if Ohio titled the bike, they may have the MSO for the frame in their records.

If it's an HD engine, Harley Corporate can tell you what year motor based on the case numbers. Otherwise it may be an aftermarket motor. Again Ohio might have the MSO.

Good Luck

Jimmy, welcome to the forum. I’m not sure why you said you have a 72 FLH. A 72 FLH would have started life with its frame VIN matching its engine VIN, both having exactly the same NINE characters as each other in a format similar to the following example: 2A 12345 H2

I think the TEN characters in your engine number are an abbreviated Harley VIN and it sounds like the style used for 1981 and/or later:
BL = model designation = FXSTS = Springer Softail
L = engine type = Evolution 1340cc
N = model year = 1992
03++++ = sequential production number

And to go with that ten-character abbreviated engine VIN, the original accompanying Harley frame would have had a full seventeen-character version of the VIN and that would have been something like the following example: 1 HD 1 BL L 1 * N Y 03++++

I used an asterisk (*) instead of a proper ninth character but in reality on a Harley frame the ninth character could be a single number from 0-9 or otherwise it could be the letter X. It's sometimes called a check digit and is used in a certain calculation to help confirm the authenticity of the Harley VIN.

I don't recognise the aftermarket frame number you gave (as far as the name of a manufacturer is concerned). Exactly what sort of VINs are on your registration papers? Eric

I'm surprised your bike is registered as a '72.
My bike has an Evo in a Shovelhead frame and the only reason it is registered as a '79 is because the frame is the original '79 (Of course, I had to modify it to get the taller Evo engine to fit).

Default Thank You Speeding

Thanks for the reply "Speeding Big Twin". I guess technically I should say I have a custom that resembles a '72 FLH, but when asked constantly it just seems easier to say its a '72 FLH with a '92 motor. I really appreciate your breakdown of the engine numbers, at least for now I know where the engine started its life. The identification number on the title is the same as the one I posted with one small difference. The one I posted is 12r1ca1046133****. The actual number on the title is 12r1ca104s133****. I'm pretty sure the title is right, I will have to look closer, they was really hard to read on the neck.
"Megawatt" the more research I do' I am surprised its titled as a '72 too. It is, however titled as a 1972 self assembled with the model being SUP not sure what that stands for neither. I know two other guys running an evo in a modified shovel frame, however, mine does fit in the frame, just barely and touching the rear post, but it does fit with no alterations yet. I say yet because i don't like it touching the post, vibration is crazy, but thats a job for another day. Thanks again for the help, and if anyone can help ID this frame it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jimmy

Default Terrell frame ?

After getting the actual frame numbers off the title, I did another vin search and got results back. The frame is listed as a 1995 Terrell, Terrell ind. inc.. however, I did not have much luck googling them. Has anyone ever heard of this company. Thanks, Jimmy
