Friend of mine had a broken Harley parked in his garage and a unique one, old Evo Tourglide, said it was a 84. It belonged to someone that had a trans issue on a ride. They started looking for some info on the trans and a odd one, got with a lifetime Harley guru that knew a old school Harley parts guy and they tracked it down to a very rare factory Platypus transmission.
FXR & FLT are almost identical frame geometry iirc. Cowpie was a name for the 4 speed and so wasn't turtle top... never heard of platypus. Ratchet tops were the older, more valuable types name.
That is what it looked like, noticed the clutch release arm on top, it didn't have any tension on it when moving
Basically a five speed with a 4 speed clutch release...either the the release finger or the throw-out bearing died...most people who have those trans carry a spare of both...you can change it to the newer style "ball and ramp" by changing the trap door.
