Default SSTL Braided Brake Lines & Cables

Picked up a new to me '07 FXDWG in late September. Managed to get 1,200 miles in before putting it up for the winter last week...First time post, but I've been lurking and gathering intel for a few months.

The bike itself only had 7,500 miles on it (now 8,700). I suspect the brake fluid is probably original, because when I asked the PO, I got that blank, deer-in-the-headlights kinda look...

So, as a winter project I was definitely going to at least purge and replace the fluid. Figured due to the age, replacing those brake lines might not be a bad idea either.

I think I've got a line on a direct replacement for the rear line, but the front is a little trickier. To my knowledge, I'm running stock bars (and what looks like OE cables/lines all around).

Any suggestions on who makes, and where I can order a direct replacement for the front brake line?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
SJK

Go ahead and replace all fluids. Folks tend to exaggerate (lie) about their maintenance schedules when selling vehicles.

Congrats on the new bike!

Thanks WMX.

I found this link to the Magnum cables (and others) during my research. The thing that isn't crystal clear to me is if the front brake line is a direct replacement.

The stock line has a steel tubing section between the top & bottom. It looks to me as if Magnum offers a Top & Bottom separately (which I assume requires some kind of manifold/splitter/tee/etc. to join them, or a single line which maybe doesn't have that steel tubing section (which I'm OK with if it will work).

Have you got prior experience with these Magnum lines?

Thanks,
SJK

I too, have been looking at their sets. I've heard they are great quality and that they are the main HD supplier.

The kits are two pieces and come with the connector that joins them. You need an upper and lower brake line kit.

Good luck.

I'm running their line on my front brake now. They have two piece designs, as you described, as well as one piece lines that run directly from the M/C to the caliper. I'm running the one piece version as they're a little cheaper and easier for single disc set-ups like ours. I think the 2-piece manifold designs are better for dual disk set ups.

On the main page, search by bike. You will get a list of all the cables they offer. Scroll down to the bottom and check out "E-Z Align Single Disc Braided Brake Lines". These are the one piece set-ups you're looking for.

"E-Z Align series". I'm running the "black pearl" color

Yup, Magnum Shielding is good kit. Depending on what you like, you can go with several different finishes. I’m currently putting the Black Pearl lines on my LRS. I have to use the upper and lower assemblies due to ABS and duals.
