10 years old and just wore out. bike was very smooth when I got it 2 years ago, but had been getting worse and worse. last time it was at the shop for a tune the guys said the fronts were completely toast. When i removed the bar that goes through the mounts it was rusted up to the mounts pretty good. pics to come
Ordered my solo rack and docking hardware, and picking up the windshield tomorrow. Can't wait to start riding it vs putting the miles on my Daily. Just need to hit up Cycle Gear before the saddlebags I want to off sale and I'll be ready for a spring of riding.
Just did a brake fluid flush on the 09 XR1200, 03 883R and the 14 XL1200T. The 03 came with DOT 5 but I want only one spec fluid in the garage just so I don't use the wrong one. I vacuumed the system until empty and then added Dot 4 and flushed it through three times. Worked fine.
I did the 08 Ulysses also which I consider a Sportster cousin.

i did the same with older parts, i ran denatured alcohol through the system then dot 4. no problems
well I got my Grab-its - they're ****. way too short to reach the bolt since the post sticks out so far, and behind the brake lines I need a really long bit.
Still cant get the bottom one.
at this point im almost ready to put the old one back on and bring it to the dealer. ugh, this sucks.
What guitarfish said about slotting the head and using a screw driver works pretty well if you do it just right.
I like to use a cordless drill on hammer setting, then reduce the clutch so that it isn't putting too much torque on the screw/bolt. If it moves at a low clutch setting, cool; if not, up the the setting a little bit at a time until it breaks free.
Heat can help as well.
Also make sure the screw-driver bit you use fits the slot tightly without any slop.
Edit: Oops. I saw where you got them out. Congrats!! Always a good feeling.
But I'll leave this here in case anyone else needs a hand.
