There was a thread about this 2-3 months ago but dammed if I can find it. I have to trailer my bike 700 miles in 2 days time and sure I read in that thread that some guys attach the straps on the crashbar above the hwy pegs and use the pannier crashbar for a rear tiedown point. I'll put a strap around the front rim also to stop it rolling rearwards and clamp the front brake a little, but is there anywhere else I can attach a strap.
Best place for the front is to use a soft-tie around the fork just above the fender mount this allows you to tie down without putting pressure on the fork seals. If you prefer do do a compression tie down then connect to the cross brace of the main frame down tubes (just below the upper front crash/engine guard bar attachment point) DO NOT use the handlebars!
For the rear I use the rear saddlebag guards or rear footpeg mounts.
Powertyes, Condor... never a problem! I pull the front straps till I see the crash bar start to flex. For the rear, I added some thinner hook straps connected to the Powertyes to get around the foot pegs and helps when loading other bikes. Bikes never move.

Just went out to the shed and checked this out. I like the idea of the rear footpeg mounts that will work great. With the cross brace up front do you mean that horizontal flat plate half way up the down tubes between the recifier and where the top of the crashbar mounts.
Call me **** but I use two sets of ties on each side going to two different sets of eye bolts. Tiedowns are cheap, dented tanks cost a wee bit more.
I'm in the same club as you then as I'm bloody paranoid about this too. Done plenty of bikes before but never my tank of a bagger. Just want to make sure its good for the trip even if it looks like charlots web with all the tie downs.

Thanks mate a picture can say a thousand words. Moving the rear tiedowns slightly forward is a great pointer.
