I知 moving and I need to ship my 24 RG from nj to fl via carrier
I haven稚 been able to find a thread focused on shipping a motorcycle with a transport carrier. Aside from putting my bike in Transport Mode, is there anything else I should take care of before handing it over to the trucking company? I壇 appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this.
Make sure the fuel tank is near empty. Some carriers will want all fluids drained. I used Fun Transport (HOG Discount carrier) but they are only a broker. They shipped via CRST who scratched my tank and scuffed the fairing. Check with the carrier what else may need to be done.
Try to find an outfit that owns their own trucks. In my experience shipping a pickup truck cross country, brokers can be a real pain in the ***. They'll sit on your load until the lowest price trucker bids on it. Then the trucker will usually try to wait until he has more than one unit heading to the same area. Makes sense for the trucker but the person waiting for an item just keeps waiting.
Haulbikes seems to be a reputable outfit. I guess your question was more about what to do prior to shipping. I’d agree - transport mode or pull the fuse
Once from Minnesota to San Diego and once from Nebraska to San Diego
The prices were very good, and the drivers were conscientious and helpful.
The caveat is they are not the fastest. They use a series of hubs where bikes are picked up & dropped off according to their truck's schedules and the bike's destinations. If you live in the boondocks, it will take longer to get a pick-up or delivery.
In both my cases, they were great with communication, the bikes arrived in the condition they were sent, and I was in no hurry, so timing was perfect...
good question, what I was wondering..ride down the coastline for a little road trip..fly back, rent a car, hitchhike..have fun with it if you have the time
