is there any benefit to just replacing the factory speakers? With so much talk about them basically being a 4 inch speaker and a 6 1/2 inch housing, would replacing them with a better speaker at 2 ohms provide any benefit?

I'll explain it like this.
If you were to replace the speakers in your car, non amplified system old school, with aftermarket speakers then drove down the highway with the windows down and dual exhaust, how much better would it sound?
No different than a bike. Actually, it's worse on bike because it's open air and there's nothing to help contain the sound.
This is exactly why motorcycle audio is a creature of it's own. It's not like anything else for when you want to actually hear the music and words while cruising down the highway.
