Default Maintenance Costs - what are you seeing?

I got a quote for 10k service of around $800 and a general 5k interval service of just below $600. It’s a bit of a staggering price to me….is that in line with you’re seeing out in the wild?

that's highway robbery..tell them you can offer them some CASH

one thing I learned long ago is that 5K really only needs fluids, air filter, go around and put a wrench on easy access nuts and bolts, lube levers, easy DIY stuff... I put the whole warranty conversation to rest on my 2024 RG..I had the dealership do the 1K then not again and my engine was replaced under warranty at 20K..all they wanted was receipts that I did the required oil changes which I was able to provide

Yup last year for my 5k service (75k) I remember paying close to $600, with my 3 oils. I do every 5k service.

Learn to do it yourself, multiple advantages. The biggest is you know it is done right vs an entry level tech blowing thru the services to get more billable hours. Secondary is it's MUCH cheaper!

It’s pricey. I was quoted numbers like that five years ago. I’ve done the last 8 myself.

Yea, that’s the plan. Learn to do as much as I can. I want a dealer to look at it periodically to make sure everything is in good shape overall. I asked what on earth are you doing that’s worth 6 times the cost of the service on my truck.

HD is pricing its self out of business. From service, parts and new bikes. I just bought a used 2025 Street Guide (a lot of plastic, A LOT) and needed a new helmet. HD wanted $150, Amazon had it for $80 (yes a DOD helmet) same one without the HD logo. Foot pegs the same, Amazon 40% or more less for the SAME items. (Not cheap junk or I would have returned them) Harley seat screw $25 Amazon $8.00 Same screw. Priced a new two-up-seat $700.00. A friend of mine worked at a HD dealer and told me they used their prices 300% over cost. I thought he was bull shining me. Well won't be doing any motor upgrades to stage I, II, or III's at HD prices.
In all fairness they did give me a new T-shirt with their logo on it.

yes it is..and if you would have allowed it to reach full operating temperature AND let it idle a minute or two on the jiffy stand as you're supposed to (you didn't say so..) it would be at the FULL HOT Upright mark .. I started doing my own oil changes long ago after having to perform overfill extraction with turkey baster from some service techs overfilling..what I think is, they read the capacity spec of 5 quarts (which is on a completely dry engine) and just dump in 5 quarts since they have to charge for 5 anyway. If they read the manual it clearly states to add 4 quarts on drain and fill changes and then do a HOT oil check. It takes ~ 4.25 qts to get it just under Full Hot on Jiffy stand at full operating temp. Now go 'borrow' your wife's turkey baster

yea I only caught it cause I noticed something else they were supposed to do and didn’t which made me start checking everything else. It was already cooling down some. I figured if it was showing that full cool it couldn’t be any better fully hot. I sent an email to the dealer already too. I’ll have to go buy a turkey baster tomorrow…when I asked about using my wife’s there was a brief discussion on where that idea could go…didn’t sound comfortable. 😂
