This is the Welcome area so may be best to raise a thread in either the Sportster Models section https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sportster-models-10/ or maybe the Shovelhead section https://www.hdforums.com/forum/shovelhead-62/

Hope you enjoy the ride here as much as you enjoy bikes.
It's a good idea to create a signature line with the year, model, and all the letters that Harley tags on their bikes. Not the VIN of course.
If you don't, be sure to add it to any post with a question in the appropriate area for the best response.
You can also add a picture to the signature.

Although the XL900 or XL1000 Ironhead motor would do as a cheaper substitute for the XR750 motor, the XR750 motor is unique to that model. For a start, the XR750 motor is not an Ironhead, it is all aluminium alloy, the heads are totally different to the Ironhead too as the exhaust ports are on the left hand side, not the right like the XL models, both inlet ports face rearward, the XK has the rear inlet port facing forwards as both cylinders on the XL models share the same carburettor. The primary drive case is also unique to the XR, as are the dual carburettors with a large air filter on each one.
Good luck with your XR750 replica project.
See the images below of the XR750 motor.
