Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
OK, I'm opening a new thread cause it looks like the ticking is coming from front rocker box (I thought it is from primary before), which is suposed to be nothing unusual BUT... the ticking is not constant. It does a few ticks than it pauses for cca 3 seconds than it ticks again and so on... It does it at idle and under load, as soon as I close the throttle it stops. Also if I ride downhill and the engine is braking the tick is not there. whe it is it is rpm related. When engine is cold it is hardy noticable. ''Screwdriver sthetoscop'' points twoards the rocker boxes as the sound is much more pronaunced as at cam cover or tappet blocks. There are no signs of exhaust leak.
I googled the problem and couldn't find any similar situation. I'm aware of rocker pin hiting the bolt and also rocker free play but those situations are always described as constant tick.
Of course I also tried AI which is not a source to trust for me, but it sugested to me, that I should try to bank the bike to the right when idleing and if I do so it actualy does not tick!
I'll open the rocker box during the winter cause I have a small leak there... It's just that I would like to verify it is not something that could harm the engine... I know it is hard to say anything this way, that's why I'd like to know if anybody came across situation like this,,,
