Default 08 RG Bar Replacement..Install pics..

OK, so I attemp to change the handlebars on my 08 FLTR from stock to 08 police bars with the FBW cutouts already in. I get the instument bezel off as well as the ignition ****.Then I see I have to completely remove the ignitionand the entire plastic piece to get to the 2 lower screws and to remove that I have to remove the entire ignition switch. My questions are: is the left and right plastice pieces only held in place with the two screws per side down by the forks? Is it easy to pull the ignition and what do I have to look out for when pulling the controls off the bars? I do have the service manual and parts book but they leave on scratching their head!!! Any and all information is appreciated...

Attempting the pictures here.

Here is a link to changine handlebars. Not every pic will be what you need, but there are sections on the grips and switches.

Most of the info is there.

The easy way is to just cut away the plastic that covers the two lower bolts. The instrument housing covers that area anyway, so if you do a neat job of cutting it won't show when you put the instruments back on.

I'm going to trade my EGC for a FLTR today. When I sit on the FLTR I feel like I'm reaching for the grips. I'm 6'5". Do your new handlebars bring the grips closer?

Yes, a little more height and more pull back. These are the bars that are on the police bikes. They are similar to the Heritage bars a lot of people put on Road Glides and already have the FBW cutouts.

Here's to removing the switch ****. The FLTR is easier to work with than the FLHT when dealing with bars, etc.

Dawg, Dude. I was hoping you'd chime in but I know you have a batwing. I got the ignition part ok, and have figured out the hoousing removal...now going to attempt the controls and FBW and hope the wires are long enough. Thanks all for input. I'm taking pictures as I go so I can help others in the future. I will post if anyone needs them. The part number for the bars is 56902-08.

RG Gld,

I had to remove the outer fairing to get enough slack in the wires to unplug the throttle sensor. You will love the new bars.

Orion..I am assuming you have the same bars. Were all the other wires long enough? Did you have to do any clutch adjustments? Other than the plastic removal, ignition removal and controls anything to look out for? I will dig deeper here in about an hour. Going over to dealer to get my ISO grips.
