I guess it depends on the bulbs. I replaced my front and rear signals with the led bulbs that you get from autozone. Not great but better than incandescent. They look good with my clear lenses. They are clear and it doesn't look like a bulb is in there. They were $15 for the pair. J & P cycles also has them.

With Can Bus (2012 and newer Softails) you do not need load equalizers to get the signals to flash at the normal rate. The BCM will keep the flash at the same rate no matter what the resistance. What may happen though, is the indicator on the speedometer may flash at double the normal speed. Some have remedied this by leaving the 4 way flashers on for a few minutes, and it may correct itself. Others just don't care as the signals themselves still flash normally.

Also, as for bulbs, you have a few options.
There is this type of bulb that is the least bright. They will only put light straight out, so they do not make use of the reflector inside your turn signals. So at night you will see a very small circle of light inside the center of your turn signal housing. These are also the least expensive typically.
This type of bulb is much more expensive, and works the same except they fill the housing with LEDs so that you have a much larger circle at night.
This type of bulb is right in between the other two for price, and is typically very bright as it uses LED's on all sides to reflect off the inside of the turn signal housing.
