Default Used Alarm and New FOB programming?

Hello, and friend of mine has purchased a used security alarm for his 07 Softail Standard. It didn't come with a Fob, so we are looking at either getting a used one, or a good deal on a new one.
I performed the TSM/TSSM ECM Password Learn Procedure on my 07 FXSTC without fail, but it came with the original FOB.
My question is this.
Will he need to have the FOB programmed by HD, or will it work out with the Learn Procedure?, or is there a posted procedure for the FOB.
Will we be able to do the Learn procedure without a FOB?

You can do the password learn, and then go to HD for them to marry the FOB.

The FOB's cost around $35 and the dealership charges 1/2 hour labor to marry the FOB to the bike.

A new FOB over here is $54.95, and 1/2hr shop rate would be $47.50 roughly plus taxes.
I'd rather buy a $20 used FOB and program ourselves, there has to be a way?

Unless you have the dealer's software the dealer will need to program the fob.
The use of the software is what you are actually paying for.

Creating the software isn't cheap.
Have you priced automotive diagnostic software lately?
GM transmission diagnostic software will run you $10K plus.

A new fob is a $100 deal, there's really no way around it.

Is that CAD or USD ?

As Bluraven said, there is a way, but it would cost you more than going to the dealer.

If you could find a used FOB, you'd still be looking at the dealers 1/2 hour charge, or buy the equipment yourself at great expense.

thanks guys, I just thought there might have been a sequence like programming the fob on a remote start.
I guess off to the dealer we go.
They are good lads at my nearest dealer, I just like to pinch the penny that's all.

1004ron, that's CAD

The Password Learn is to match the TSSM to the ECU, and that should take 30mins, but many overlook minor detail in the procedure and it fails to link them - is t this part that you cannot get right, or is it marrying the FOB to the bike is where you're stuck?

If any of the indies in your area have the Centurion diagnostic tools from Techno Research they can program the fobs for you. We charge $25 to do so here.
