103 Big Bore Installed
I just got my 08 Fatboy (17k miles) back from the dealer. I already had a 96" stage 1 and then had the SE 103" Big Bore kit installed w/255 cams along with a Power Commander V (replacing my V&H Fuel Pak). I was just looking for a little more kick and the money wasn't too bad. I had my first ride yesterday and it was a lot of fun. The engine ran very strong and really jumped when I twisted the throttle. I took it easy though. The dealer recommended putting 500 miles on it before they tune it on the dyno and they installed a canned map for now. I got exactly what I wanted out of it and I can't wait to see how it performs after the dyno. I'm thinking I should have had the manual pressure release valves installed. It seems a little harder to start than it was. Is there a market for stock 96" cylinders, pistons, and cams? The Fuel Pak is going on ebay.
I did the same build on my 10 deluxe. I really like it. It suits my riding style. I also have different heads with no compression releases. My bike starts fine every time. You will be happy when you can really twist that throttle.
I agree, the 255's have a lot of static Comp. which can cause pinging... and is hard on starters.
Its a good cam for heavy touring bikes that's ridden mostly 2 up and the bags and boxes filled that want good performance between 2K-4K rpms.....
For a lighter bike ( IE-- softails) that's ridden solo, there are several other cams in the SE line and Many-Many-- Aftermarket cams that will do/work better and will be a lot easier on the engine..
