Due to my total lack of knowledge on what is available, I did some searching for a replacement system on the Springer.. Well there was so much it became pretty overwhelming..
SO..
I would like some help with this..
This bike came with two sets of pipes, V&Hines "Straight shots" which look to have been abused and in need of refinishing and for as close as I can tell, a cheap set of drag pipes (currently on the bike)..
Well, as much as I like the sound of the V-twin, this is too much and I am pretty sure my neighbors would like to see a new set of pipes as well..
I need to split the middle ground with something better sounding than stock but not so loud as the drag pipes.
Would really like some opinions so I can look in the right places..
2-1s are generally more quiet, or can be.
I'm running V&H Big Shots Long with quiet baffles that are reasonably loud. The quiet baffles take the 'harshness" out of the exhaust note. None of my neighbors have complained and I leave for work at 5:30 A.M.
You could try some DK Lollipops for your drag pipes. They will give you more power, and will tone down the sound some. Cheap to try.
Here's some dyno results of the lollipop trick. I can't believe how well it worked on my bike. My bike has such long pipes that it's not too bad even with only a thumbscrew in the exhaust.
Big Shots are great pipes, and when you add the quiet baffle they sound even better. The quiet baffle hives them the perfect harley rumble sound.
What year is your Springer?

It is an '03 paint was done by Kenny Reynolds
I am really wishing these V&H pipes did not have the scratches. I would just buy the "quiet" baffles and go.. Problem is the rest of the bike is pretty much pristine and they are going to stick out like a sore thumb..
Guess I will just buy fresh pipes and new baffles.. The old pipes would look just fine on someones "every day rider" so maybe worth a few bucks...
NOW... how do I make new pipes look like something I just gotta have to momma...
Blue Job will clean up that bluing but it'll take a lot of hand work.
They did not clean the pipes completely before firing up the bike on new pipes either.. (rookie mistake I made back in the 70's)..
As cheap as these pipes appear, I do not think they are going to be worth the effort.. Guessing you can buy these for under a hundred bucks..
Am used to having to dole out $1500+ for pipes (Titanium/CF) on my hotrod bikes.. Kind of nice to find American made stuff for a change and at a price that is pretty easy on the wallet.. Liking this HD stuff better every day
I think you are right, drag pipes are cheap if that's what you decide to go with. Wouldn't be worth the time to make those right for $100....and they would blue up again soon. If you get drag pipes remember the lollipop trick.
I love my duals but they would be pricey. My buddy has big shot longs like QC on his heritage springer, with baffles, and it sounds great. Not as loud as my open pipes but still loud enough and super deep. Those are a great option in my opinion.
