I think you are right, drag pipes are cheap if that's what you decide to go with. Wouldn't be worth the time to make those right for $100....and they would blue up again soon. If you get drag pipes remember the lollipop trick.
I love my duals but they would be pricey. My buddy has big shot longs like QC on his heritage springer, with baffles, and it sounds great. Not as loud as my open pipes but still loud enough and super deep. Those are a great option in my opinion.
Thanks.. with what has been said above, I just ordered up a new set of Straight shots and quiet baffles.. Will deal with the Mrs later..
Kind of ironic, work on fuel motors a lot of years and end up having a bike that is too loud? I recall telling guys "if it is too loud, you are too old"
Gonna dig out that AARP card now, maybe JP has a senior discount?

If you end up thinking they are too quiet (I pulled out my baffles about three months after I got them)....just remember the lollipop trick.
Post up pics and a video when you are done.
And of course, nothing beats the sound of an EVO but open pipes help.

Very good.. At least I will have a fresh set of pipes that I can work with, stock baffles, quiets , open and lollipops... Gotta be something in there I am going to like..
Now why someone put $69 pipes on a bike they paid $25k for is beyond me..
I should have them on Wednesday with any luck.. Looks like I can do this without a lift as both mine are tied up at the moment.
Ok, minor hurdle when I was too dumb to find the new hanger bracket in the small box..
Total time was about 30 minutes to change out pipes.. That in itself has me really happy.. my R1 and Busa took around 6 hours each.. I was prepared for something a bit tougher than 4 nuts and 6 bolts..
What I did find was that whomever put these pipes on ran a 3" bolt through the frame to hold the exhaust hanger. That bolt went right under the swing arm and was preventing it from fully going down. When I pulled the bolt, the bike bumped up about half an inch.. Time to go over this machine one bolt at a time..
New pipes
on lower frame tube, both holes had 3" bolts in them. Back one hung up swingarm
I have the straight through baffles in now.. volume is just a notch under the drag pipes but the tinny raspiness is gone under full throttle and to me that is a big improvement.
It has some "tone" to it now also but is still a bit loud for me.
I have a set of "quiets" that should be here in the next day or so (~3db improvement).
