Default Seat Upgrades

I've been totally satisfied with the look of my Screamin' Eagle Fat Boy seat since the first day I put it on my bike, but it wasn't the most comfortable seat in the world. So, to improve the seat's comfort, I bought a gel seat insert for it. Then, since the seat was going to be apart anyway, I thought this would be a good time to customize its appearance a bit so I bought a caiman (South America crocodile) hide for it. I took the seat, gel pad, and crocodile skin down to the local auto upholstering shop to have the work done and got the seat back on Friday. Today, a few of my buddies and I went on a daylong ride and what a difference! The seat is very comfortable now and I think the croc leather give its a cool, customized look. I'm happy with the results!

I'm glad it worked out well for you!

Where did you get the gell?
Did you try it out with the gell on top of the seat before doing the work?

Thanks, guys!

I bought the gel insert through my local chopper shop. It's one of the "Rawgel" pads as seen on this page. http://www.saddlemen.com/gelpads.html

I tried the pad out by putting it on a stool and sitting on it before I had it installed.

Nice, that thing is sick. That's a cool seat I doubt you will see on any other bike. So you recommend the gel pack? Did your new seat move your riding position? I'm thinking about doing the same exact thing minus the croc hide.

Thanks, BoneCrusher. Yeah, I would definitely recommend the gel pads.

No, it didn't change my seat position at all, but I'm sure it could be used to change it if that's what you wanted to do.

That is one sweet seat!!!

I was talking to the girl at LePera about a solo seat for my FXSTC. I told her I wanted the bike gel put in it. She inplied that it would feel "firm". I have a gel wrist support on my computer desk, I guess my question is, does it feel reaaly firm or do you kinda sink into it?

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks. I'm also going to an auto upholstery shop a buddy of mine owns. He said he could move me as much as the seat allows.

O/T: I just gotta say again too how much I love those samson pipes on your ride. Woulda went with those same pipes on my new one but had samsons on my last ride and wanted something different.

Hi, Jim. The stuff is a bit strange in that if you squeeze the edge of the gel pad, it's squishy, soft, and also very sticky. However, when you sit on the pad, your weight is distributed across its surface and it firms up, giving you great comfort and support. You definitely don't sink down into it.

You're welcome, amigo, and thanks for the compliment! You too have an awesome-looking ride. [sm=shades.gif]
