Default 120ST - 120R and gearing

So I'm getting ready to have the dealer pick up my BO to install the 120ST. I've thought on this for a while, I have the funds so I figured why not - do what makes me happy. Anyway the service manager calls and says they find out the ST will not fit the softail but the 120R will? Thought this was strange because first I figure they have the same case, and second I could swear there are a few on here that have done the ST swap. So wondering a) is this a case of a dealer not knowing wtf they're talking about (and hence not the one that's going to be installing a motor in my bike); 2) if the R is the only option, hear anything negative about them? The R is risky.

Second part of my post is in regards to trans and drive sprocket gear ratio. There's a dude on here that seems to be somewhat of an expert on this. He's posted about changing the gearing on stock softys to wake them up. I cannot seem to find his username or previous posts so I hope he chimes in here or someone points me to someone that would know. Since they'll be heavy into the bike this winter does it make sense to swap gears to give me the biggest bang for my buck with the 120 motor? What gearing would be best?

Thanks guys

I haven't seen the ST in a balance shaft engine version.
Maybe that's the reason?

This is true, I thought about that and figure the 120 is not balanced and would need rubber mount conversion. Something else to ask about

You can gear down your bike a few ways:
30 tooth pulley and belt
Evolution industries 49 tooth clutch basket
Rivera primo 32 tooth Game changer
Baker DD7 and their 31 tooth pulley.
My 2 cents, with a gearing change and an indy bult / tuned motor( 107,113 ,117) set up the way you ride, you should be ok.vhavecfun...l

I have a 30t front pulley on my 124" and it is no fun in the wet. Next time the inner primary is removed, I'm going back to a 32t.
