ECM problems on 07' FXST
I have an 07' FXST and the ECM has gone bad. Was wondering if anyone else had problems with theirs. This is the second time it has gone in the shop (1st was front fork issues). Engine suddenly started sputering and died while in a curve. Lovely. Now it is in shop and the part should arrive in a short 5 to 6 weeks. Jeez.
Hi FX,
a common problem on a few of the 07 softails I have seen is the wiring around the battery wears on the terminals. My brothers 07 FXSTC wore through and shorted out the ecm. Also fried the PC3 to boot.
The wiring needs to be better secured to eliminate this issue. In part, the 02 sensor wires come out of the cable channel and down infront of the battery. This is a common wire to wear through. We have had several bikes in with various degrees of wear on wires near both terminals.
Hope this helps
regards
Mick

There is a recall because of the problem with the hot cable shorting out. Ask your dealer about it.
Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Recall: Oil Leak and Resulting Fire Could Result in Personal Injury or Death
Harley-Davidson is recalling 52,240 MY 2007 FLSTC, FLSTC Shrine, FLSTF, FLSTF Shrine, FLSTN, FLSTSC, FXST, FXSTB, FXSTC, FXSTD, and FXSTSEE Softail motorcycles. These motorcycles were built with a condition that permits the positive battery cable to contact a weld bead on the oil tank. This may cause the weld bead to abrade through the insulation on the cable and cause an electrical short from the battery through the oil tank and oil lines. This could lead to an oil leak and/or possible fire, which could result in injury or death to the rider. Dealers will install a battery caddy that will protect the cable and ensure proper cable routing. This recall is expected to begin during May 2007. [/align]
