Ya, I would like to know also. My 07 SG just went to the dealer last week. 18k miles, pinion bushing is split in half and crank has .029 runout. Can't seem to get any real answers if this only affects a certain build date, has anything been changed to fix this on the 08's and 09's.
It doesn't seem to be too widespread. I've only read of a few bikes here with the problem, and it isn't too clear what the problems or symptoms are either.
Thats what I'm hoping too, that it's just a few. I haven't heard of many, only 2 (mine and one other) besides the couple you read on the forums. And as always bad news spreads alot faster than good news. I'm trading to an 09, and thats why I am curious if someone (Harley) has the facts about what is really the cause. And if it affects only certain build dates or what.
Mine let go at 6300 miles. The dealer took two months to fix it and did not tell me what went wrong and why. I all but demanded a new crankshaft, they did not put one in and did not tell me the run out spec. I am worried it will happen again. The only thing they said was that it could have been something that stopped up an oil passage to make it hydrolic an let go. I runs better than it ever has now though, go figure.
