Default Vance and Hines Big Shots Long or slip on Mufflers? -- 2015 Softail Slim

Hey everyone,

I have a stock 2015 Softail Sim. Was getting my bike serviced earlier today and noticed some of the other HD Softail (heritage, fatboy etc.) model bikes with a louder exhaust/rumble and more throaty sound. Did some homework and am basically down to two options:

1. Vance and Hines Big Shots Long Exhaust system - $750 (+ extra for labor since, I will probably need some help to do the install)

2. Vance and Hines Twin Slash Round slip on mufflers - $330 (can probably install myself)

Which one do you guys from your experience/ knowledge think will be sufficient for that louder and more deep sound?

I'm leaning towards #2 at the moment, but by no means am set on it. I've heard that the slip ons don't make that much of a difference as far as sound goes? True/False?.

Alternatively option #1 may get me in a little trouble due to the sound level from a whole new V&H exhaust system (i'll be riding in Cali). What are your thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

I assume the slim is like my heritage in that the catalytic converters are in the mufflers from the factory. I removed my mufflers and put on some Rush 1.75" baffle slip-ons and the sound is night and day. IMO, slip ons will do you just fine if the sound is what you are looking for.

Yep, if you're happy with the look of the slip-ons and you're not really fussed about a fast change in performance, the 3" slip ons are great

I had them on my Slim and they sound fantastic - you might want to put baffles in them though (V&H Quiet baffles instead of the supplied 'open' baffles) as I personally found them too loud.

Very easy to install yourself too.

I've since gone for the Big Shots Staggered as I prefer the look (and I bought a V&H Fuelpak FP3 and VO2 air cleaner kit too)

Go with the Longs! Don't see too many generally, and I don't think I've seen a Slim with them. You'll love the sound.

I have Vance and Hines slip ons on my Lo they sound great and are a quick solution to the stock mufflers. If your going to put on a full exhaust you should do air cleaner and power commander and with instillation it gets pricey.

Do it yourself!

Take it slow, get a service manual... seriously, it's easy to do

Air cleaners come with instructions on fitting (1 hr tops), the V&H Fuelpak FP3 is child's play (like, literally 10 minutes) and getting the existing exhausts/headers on and off is just a process of undoing stuff carefully then redoing stuff carefully... allow a few hours to take it slow and steady.

Great advice guys. I will most likely try out the slip ons first and work my way up to a full exhaust.

Talking with the service tech today at harley. He was telling me with the slip ons I can add an air breather and fuel pak. Then later down the road a full exhaust and put the bike on the Dyno.

Do the full exhaust from the get go. You're just gonna wind up doing it anyways

I have the rush slip on also on my2016 and unless you want to spend a lot of money for a full exhaust they suit me just fine.with no other mods I just can't see any reason to spend a lot of $ when these make it sound like a Harley and run a little better .
also got a fp3 to try it out but haven't connected it yet.also running stock air cleaner cause from what I've read it passes all the air I need with just a set of slip one.just my 2 cents worth!
