I have a 93 Softtail Springer and it has an S&S engine. Sometimes at idle the engine will stop running like someone pulled the plug on it. Also at times when I hit the start button the engine doesn't crank then all of a sudden it will crank and start. This is an intermittent issue. The engine never stops at speed only sometimes at idle. Somehow I think its electrical. I checked the battery cables they are tight and clean and also the starter wires. Any ideas? Thanks for any help on this issue.

 

First check the connections on the coil...the nuts will vibrate loose.

If that is not the problem, you need to check the "run/stop" switch circuit...see if you have power to the coil...when it doesn't want to start.
