Default Dunlop American Elite Tires

This may be a dumb question, but here goes.

Looking at the tires (just bought a pair), the front tread design is different than the rear tire design. Groves run the opposite direction.
Tires are installed correctly.

Anyone know why?

I never noticed that and I'm running American Elites.

When they first came out the groves ran in the same direction....they had terrible problems with the front tires cupping...they changed the direction arrow on the sidewall, and changed the direction of rotation to solve the problem.

The manufacturer puts a 'direction arrow' on the sidewall for a reason.

Install the tire to roll the way the direction arrow points, you'll be good to go..............

Yep - - got them on correctly (arrows in the right direction) - - I was just wondering why the tread design is not the same direction on both tires.
I had them professionally installed, but also checked the direction of the arrows after installation.'
Probably not a big deal, but I just had to ask the question. Note: one reply I received said it had something to do with the original design which caused "cupping" so Dunlap changed rotation to solve the problem - - that seems strange - -
From what I have read, they are very good tires.

That was very informative. Thanks. I just replaced my rear Am Elite a couple days ago at 6750 mi's.It wore evenly but I notice my frt makes noise when laying over on curves. Maybe slight cupping?

The reason for the reversed direction is for the front to channel water away while braking and the rear to channel water away during acceleration.

I run American Elites on my softail and Elite 3's on my GW. The front tire on my GW always howls when turning, ever since I bought it and every set thru 60K miles. They wear well and I live with it. No cupping.
