Anyone ever "tour" on a Deluxe?
I was just wondering how many people put serious miles on their Deluxes (3-500/day) as opposed that use their bikes more for cruising or bar hopping? How does a Deluxe do on a long haul?
I dont have a dulxe, i have a springer classic its just fine for 500 miles days w./ the stock seat, A lady in my chapter rode 15,000 last year on her deluxe, we live in MI so our riding season is limited, she loves her bike!
You should be just fine, I can ride my FXST about an hour before I need to stop and streach a few minutes and grab a smoke then it's right back on. I broke my back in three places when I was 21 and have some back problems, so you should be fine on the long runs.
Most I have done in a single day was around 220, but it wasn't bad. If you're 6'0" and up, you'll want to look into a new seat, which is what I'm doing now. The OEM seat makes me feel cramped and after a couple of hours, the tension in your back will start becoming uncomfortable. Aside from that, there's really no reason you can't put some long miles on a Deluxe.

or modify your seat as I and others have done. It's a cheap fix before u decide to pay the monie for a new seat. I had mine done at an upholstery shop.

No offense, but it will be the difference of night and day compared to your Sporty. I'm assuming that your using your current bike as a "yard stick" to measure how other bikes will be. Notice how everyone on a Softail is saying, " You should be fine, have no worries, etc.?"
As Nike says, "Just do it!"
The Deluxe just about does the trick for distance. Onlything I have issues iswith the lowered rearshocks, they can be hell on bumpy roads or in the twisties and that can all change if you are riding two up.
