A rear tire with 25,000 miles on it?

Is that an ME888 ?
Looks like it is not a cut, but it is coming apart as a lot of them do ( no matter what tire it is it is done)

IMO...just ride it to the shop. Heck, you've been riding it for how long like that before you even noticed it.

Personally, I'd ride the 40 miles to get it done if you can't remove it yourself. No way I'd take a long trip or load the bike down. That looks like it would leak slow to me, not explode.
