Default Moisture in my speedo

Can't believe that this is still a problem. My dealership ordered a new one but still!

It happens. It doesn't matter how many times they replace the speedometer.

There is even a current thread about this in addition to yours.

I know the thread and all my previous harleys had it.
But this is a brand new model, new speedo, it really shouldn't happen anymore!

I have owned something over 70 new motorcycles of lots of brands, among them are 3 new HD's, a '13, '14 and now a '18. Never have seen this in any motorcycle owned other than my HD's. IMHO, totally inexcusable, especially as expensive as they are.

Just a FYI.

I was having the same moisture build up under my Speedo Glass as everyone else since the weather became very hot and humid here in Central Florida. About two weeks ago I placed a handful of desiccant packages (small silica moisture absorbing packets) under the console and around the speedo.

The moisture build up did not go away immediately, but after the two weeks or so since, I now have not been getting the build-up I was getting after about 20 minutes into a ride.

The weather has been in the high 90's and humidity very high during this period and I have been doing the same kind of riding as before (2+ hour rides in the mornnigs before the TS arrive). I even got cought in a down pour the day before yesterday and it did not result in any build-up today after a two hour breakfast run with my SO.

I'm thinking the packets finally absorbed the moisture within the console and speedo. I'm sure they will have to be replaced every so often when and if and I see the moisture re-appear.

Haven't seen these packes in local stores, but they can be found on Amazon. They are about 1/2" in diameter and about two inches long. Don't remember the brand. Need to order more so will be searching later myself.

No gaurentees it works or it is just a coinsidence, but certainly does not hurt to try.

Sombody else posted that they had done this also, but there has been no follow up posting about his/her (?) result to my knowledge.

What's with all the treads on water in the speedo recently? They leak; they aren't sealed completely. It's been that way since I had my 51 Pan Head and all the way up to my current bike. The OEM speedo on my 07 leaked and so does the new high dollar speedo with the tach in it..

It's a Harley..
