Default FXFBS Dominion Rear Axle Nut Cover

Hi,

I bought the dominion rear axle nut cover for my FXFBS, part number 43000129.
The instructions are straight forward, but i can't figure out how the one on the left side will lock in, it have a huge slack.
Has anyone installed it yet?

One set screw is longer than the other.

Make sure you have the longer screw on the side with more slack.

Instructions show the short screw on the left side.

And then there's this to consider.

It's stock. No service or replacement was made.

What i'm doing wrong?
Does the 2019 FXFBS and later 2018 models use different axle nut sizes?

After viewing your videos, I can see why you're concerned with loose fitment on the left side. Although I've never installed rear axle nut covers, I've installed several pairs of front axle nut covers, and loose fitment such as yours was not uncommon. Once the set screws are tightened, installation is complete, even though the cover is slightly off center. Orientate the set srews perpendicular to a hex flat near six o'clock so they are less visible. Apply blue loctite to the set screw threads. The set screws come with pre-applied thread locker, but it may have worn off if you've ran them in and out several times already.

I think the problem is in the axle nut. Perhaps there's a specific axle nut to use the covers.

The covers are a multi-fit accessory. They were not made to fit just your specific model and year alone, but a variety of models manufactured as early as 2008. There are slight variations in axle nut size amongst these models. The longer set screw compensates for these slight variations.

Edit: I noticed the instructions I posted in post #3 are obviously incorrect for your application. It shows the deep cover with the short screw belonging on the left side. The deep cover with the short screw should be on the right side. Wouldn't be the first time P&A instructions were incorrect.

I thought exactly the same. I'll send an email to HD to see what they say. Thanks

FYI, HD (corporate) doesn't communicate with its customers by e-mail. Phone, or snail mail only.
