Default 21” front wheel with stock suspension?

Hey all,

Ride an 03 Heritage and want to put a 21” front wheel on it. I’m doing the chrome forks at the same time, so I figure why not upgrade the suspension as well. Should I go with stock height or lower it about an inch? Does it look that bad with stock height? I know going to a 21” is going to negatively influence the handling, but I’m trying to make it handle the best I can with the 21” front. Gonna stay with a 16” rear.

Thanks

When I installed my 21" wheel I installed a Progressive Drop-in Kit and lowered the front 2". That got the bike back to stock angle/ride height so I'd definitely recommend lowering it. I haven't noticed any handling issues at all.... Rides great!

Thanks for the response. Any issues when you’re two up? I just want it to feel alright but still look good haha. Thanks

No issues at all fully loaded (tour pack and bags full) and 2 up. Rode it all the way to Sturgis with zero issues.

Super late to the party, but I've had no issues on the stock front suspension after switching to the 21. I noticed a small difference on my initial ride, but got used to it within a few miles. I feel the bigger wheel along with sticky tires dramatically helps with my turn in feel.

Looks like you lowered the rear of your bike, what did you go with there?

I went with the Shotgun system. Definitely worth the money.

I also lowered the front suspension by 1" to bring it back to original height, using a progressive lowering kit. If you had a 19" wheel previously and now 21", you only need to lower it by 1". It was more for the balanced look on the bike. I didn't notice much change in the handling before I had it lowered but with the larger wheel.
