Default '87 FXSTC | Engine Oil Drain Plug Location?

HI Everyone - I've been scouring online videos and info on where the location of the drain plug is on a '87 FXSTC, and I've hit a wall. I have the Clymer manual, but the diagram for 85-91 is off; for my bike it looks like it matches oil hose routing from the 1992 diagram according to the Clymer book (really odd). At any rate, the manual doesn't give detailed pics or directions on where the drain plug is - I've been trying to find the plug so I can change the oil on my own! I see there's a hose from the oil tank down to the frame, and with some years I've discovered the drain plug is just below the frame where the hose is attached - not in this case. In another case, I've found info that how you drain the engine oil is to disconnect that hose and drain from there and there's a plug in the tube?? Can anyone on this forum be the source of truth on where the oil drain plug is and how to go about draining the engine oil for this bike? Many thanks!!

Hello
From what your stating it seems as though your engine drain hose goes into the frame .
some bikes have a plug at the end of the hose. Some have the hose clamped on a 1 1/2 to 2 inch or so plug welded to the frame . If this is the case all you do is release the clamp pull the hose off and there you go.
follow your line until the end , flash light may be needed to assure this is the case. This is how mine is set up and went through the same headache trying to figure it out
good luck

Sorry I'm not really familiar with all this 'drain at the end of a tube' business, and I'm not sure how that would empty the oil from the engine? Mine is right between the shocks underneath the engine, much care needs to be taken not to cross/thread the oil plug when putting back together. Hope this helps.

There's no engine drain on an Evo, as it's a dry sump system. You drain the oil from the oil tank.

Yes, drain from the trank. My '91 had a plug in the end of the hose with a hose clamp holding it in. Loosen the clamp, pull the plug, catch the oil.

IF you've been parked for a very long time it's possible that oil from the tank will defeat the ball check in the oil pump and flood your crankcase. When this happens you've got no drain plug to get the level down. If the motor has enough oil to lock up, the pain in the *** fix would be to loosen the oil pump and let it drain there. I was always able to start the engine and let the oil pump clear the cases as the oil tank gradually filled. Probably lucky I never bent a con rod.
