Default 2011 Fatboy Lo - feels very hot - normal?

Hey guys - I just picked up a 2011 FLSTFB and noticed on the ride home that there is a crapload of heat on my right leg. I'm not new to Harleys and have had Sportsters, Dynas, and even a '17 Road King. My wife rides an '05 FLSTF and I don't notice this amount of heat from hers or my previous bikes. Keep in mind that my Lo has OEM pipes (for now) and hers has V&H Straight Shots. I'm wondering if the mid-height of the Lo pipes (and maybe even the existence of cats in the mufflers) are really what I'm feeling.

Thoughts?

The stock pipes and maybe stock tuning will make those bikes quite hot. Start with the tuning and get rid of the stock pipes and it will cool down a bit along with crotch coolers (Captain Itch).

Cool - thanks. I'm going to be swapping a set of V&H Short Shots on and using an FP3 to tune it, so I'm hoping that this will help. I'm definitely used to the fact that air cooled engines are hotter than liquid-cooled engines, but this was noticeably hotter than any of the others I've had or ridden.

Some bikes run hotter than others, but virtually all the Twin Cams since 2007 run too hot for their own good.

Here's an informative article on why, and various things that can be done to cool them down. LINK

It's not even the head or oil temp that I'm worried about - I think it's mostly from the exhaust. I'm planning to add an oil cooler pretty soon to help keep the internal temps down a bit, but for now I'm just trying to keep my leg from being roasted (it doesn't help that I'm in SW Florida).

Different pipes will reduce the felt heat.

But reducing the source of the heat will also reduce the felt heat. We have many Customers that keep the stock pipes and are able to reduce the source of the heat by 50-90 degrees, which also reduces the felt heat.

Conversely, there are many that change the pipes, but still have too much felt heat...until the reduce the source of the heat.

Florida sounds real good right now. Gonna be below 30* here this weekend!
