Hello friends,
just bought my first Harley, A 2011 fatboy I found with 550 miles on it, I am so excited i cant stop hyperventilating!!!!!! The bike is MINT except for the two heat sheilds coming off the heads have something melted on them and after spending way too much time to trying to get it off it seems they need to be replaced. does anyone have a part number for these or maybe know someone selling some takeoffs. I am going to have an anxiety attack if i dont get some new ones. every time I look at the bike all I see is that black mess.
Any help would be great.
Going out to the garage now and stare at the bike some more while I wait for a answer.
Thanks again
Doug
I melted a micro fiber towel on my exhaust one time.. Looked all over the net for a way to fix it.. Some one here said use very fine steel wool on a hot pipe. SO I tried it.. Couldn't look worse.. It worked great.. Just get the pipes hot and rub it lightly..
Might get it off.. Didn't leave any scratches for me.. Hope this helps..
That sounds like an idea. What type steel wool ?
Maybe 0000 ? And you used steel wool not brass
Right. Worth a shot getting ready to just buy new ones
Thanks for the thought,
Doug
Ez off oven cleaner. My OL melted a high heel boot right on my muffler. I sprayed a good amount of it on the COLD pipes, let it sit for 4 hours, then used a rag dipped in goo-gone and scrubbed it off. Took a little elbow grease, but Worked like a charm.
I have used aluminum foil on a hot pipe to remove Microfiber towel.
just fold it and rub the goo right off. .
Be careful the aluminum gets hot real quick but it worked well
I like the sound of using aluminum being that it is softer than chrome can't see it scratching.
Was about to use the steel wool today but could not bring myself to do it. Maybe after all else fails the steel wool will be a option.
Thanks for the ideas. Oh BTW the oven cleaner did not work. -ughh
