If I were to cut the stock pipes back to the footpegs so you only see the black would I be risking any damage to the bike. I ask this because I thought the it would be louder. The second reason is because I can not afford the 700$ exhaust I desire. If you google a picture of any 2011 fatboy lo I would cut it of where the silver muffler ends. Insight would be appreciated.
Don't think that's a good idea you spent all that money for a beautiful bike don't chance it. I bought a set of rush black 1.75 slip ons for about $300 with a 20% discount at my dealer they sounded real good. I got a good deal on some V&H 2 into 1 so I switched after about 500 miles. PM me with what you can afford and maybe we can work something out. I have a 2010 fatboy lo so they should fit your bike.
Seriously? You do know they just unbolt? No offense, but don't be a moron. You can pick up used slip on mufflers on ebay for less than $100 if all you care about is your bike being "loud".

hahahha... cut off the pipes. HAHAHAH oh man..that was a good one. Thanks.
ok dude i understand what your talking about i was there before. But next time reread your post before you hit send. If you dont want to spend any money take a piece of rebar or all thread with a washer on it and hit the baffles inside the muffler to open up the factory muffler it will give you a little bit louder and deeper sound till you can save some money to get a exhaust system. You can look in to the muffler and see the lil plate i am talking about took me about 10 mins to do.
Ok, I'm gonna let you off the hook, by assuming when you say cut off you really meant detach.
No you don't want to do that. As suggested above, either knock a hole in your baffle or get some cheap slipons as rquirch suggested, until you get the funds.
