Default upgrade my 88CI 04 fat boy

Hello All

My first post on this forum so take it easy on me .. Here it goes . I have a 2004 fat boy that was passed down to me from my father as he bought a new street glide a couple years back and its been sitting in the garage doing nothing . I will never sell this bike as I know I would regret it so I plan on keeping it indefinitely . Ive been riding since I was 16 and have had Harley's previously I log about 3-4k miles per year . if you had about $4k to spend on engine/ performance mods for this bike what would you do ? whats the best bang for my buck ? I know it sounds crazy to dump that into a 16 yr old bike but it only has 16k miles on it and I want more pep for the highway and looking to keep that street glide itch away . Thanks in advance

+07 cam plate w/ hydraulic tensioners and updated oil pump, Andrews 21N cams, PC5 w/ auto tune, new exhaust with O2 bungs, fresh tires, some apes if that's your thing, and full tank of gas... ride the hell out of that thing.

With that budget, you can make some good performance mods that will in the end be much cheaper than buying a new bike. There are several shops offering 95/98" big bore kits with proven components that compliment each other... (FuelMoto, Hillside Cycles, etc..)

Contact some of the vendors for information on their "kits" and whatever you do, don't short-cut on the tune...

FWIW.. I have a 2003 Heritage 88" EFI. I bought it new in 2003. Almost immediately, I went with an HD 95" big bore kit, to include the old HD download flash tune for the kit. It ran well for many years... very fun...

I then dealt with the tensioner issue by going with an '07+ cam plate w/oil pump, conversion cams (A26), new inner cam bearings, new breather assemblies in the rocker boxes, and a dyno tune... The bike is even more fun now...

Good luck with your decision and enjoy the bike for many more years/miles to come...

Hydraulic cam plate conversion kit, 95 inch big bore kit, I know this is not engine work but upgrade the suspension if you haven't already. Powervision, exhaust with o2 ports, Autotune PRO. I have a 2004 fatboy, love it and can't get rid of it.

Just remember anything higher the a 510 lift cam and you will need to replace the valve springs. People like the S&S 509 cam.

What's wrong with the bike? Just ride the damn thing so you can figure out what feels good and what does not feel good so you can set up the bike the way YOU want it, and not the way others want it

I agree, do all the fluid changes, new tires and ride it. Then figure out what you need. Maybe you want another seat and bars first as these things seems to be a personal preference.
