Default 1990 Softail custom strang question need some input

Hello everyone,

I need some advice from some of you experts. My husband had bought an original 1990 HD Softail Custome brand new and we enjoyed riding it through Sturgis SD and all along the East Coast over the years.

About 6 years ago he decided that he wanted to fix or change some stuff on the bike and took it apart. I mean apart. Then he got sick. Well, I don't want to get int to much detail here but the through is that the bike since then stayed disassembled all these years waiting to be back to its old glory.

Unfortunately, my husband recently passed away and so the bike will not shine for us again but I hope it will for someone else and that is where I come to ask for some advice. Since my husband has passed I had a lot of people come over all of them trolling over the bike. They all tell me the bike is worthless since it is in pieces some parts have been outside for all these years and the motor itself is so outdated they are not considered expensive anymore. It is funny however that everyone wants it. I got offers from $ 300 to $ 900. Now I know that my sentimental feelings are attached to this bike and so I kind of feel a bit offended by this offers, I admit the bike looks sad and needs lots of work but it is a Harley a real one, and it is 30 years old.

So I thought I ask here to see what some of you think it may be worth.
Now If you wounded about the milage, I am not quite sure how to read this, but the meter has a red number at the end that show a 6 then all other numbers are black and white and read as 38240. I hope that helps.

I hope some can give more information on what to do right here. I don't want to just sell the Harley for nothing it meant a lot to us and we a great time together on it.

Thank you

The mileage is 38,240. The 6 is 6/10 of a mile. As for how much it's worth depends on who is buying. It's worth what someone will pay. It's hard to say without seeing it but in pieces and outside, especially the motor is not good. Then there's the issue of rubber dry rotting and a host of other issues with a bike that sat for long.
To be perfectly honest, that $900 offer may not be far off. Again, without seeing it in person...
unfortunately sentimental value isn't worth anything. Sorry.

I can`t believe I`m saying this, but I agree with 60Gunner...

Maybe more valuable to someone who knows the bike and it`s parts, but to a stranger it is just a 31 year old basket case...

Thank you for your input. I do have some pictures not sure if that would help. I was afraid of such info and I know sentiment has no value it is just so hard to let go. I almost think I need to become a mechanic and put it back together myself.

Thank you for responding

If you have a clean title and the frame, that's probably the bulk of its value. See if you can find a comparable titled frame anywhere in your area, and that's probably your price range. Everything else is just a bonus when buying bikes like this. Pictures never hurt when asking guys like us. I assume everyone else around here trolls craigslist as much as I do.
