Default Leaking primary?

Just noticed this, is it time to replace the gasket or just tighten the bolts?

You could always check the torque on the bolts first, to see if any are loose and that they all are at the same torque.... it couldn't hurt... just don't over tighten them....

If the cover was recently off and replaced with the same gasket, I would probably do a quick check for bolt tightness, and if no bolts are found loose, I'd remove and replace the gasket...

My gasket leaks have been at the bottom of a case, not the top...

Thanks man, will chexk torque in correct order. But if they have loctite, that might break the seal I assume?

I haven't had it off and owned the bike for about 1.5 years.

The only time I've ever seen that was when a buddy of mine changed his gasket and didn't follow the correct tightening sequence . This may come in handy if you end up changing out the gasket . Your going to have to release all the tension of " all " the bolts in order to get the cover to " seat " properly ( could result with leaks ) , which would mean draining the oil and re filling after torquing it down , then you could add new loctite .

If they are so loose that the proper torque breaks free any blue locktite, and they take a revolution or two to tighten up, you'll know someone just forgot to tighten/torque them...

OP..... I've never seen a "leak" like yours...

MyFavRk has seen one like that, when the torque sequence wasn't followed....

Based on his experience, I'd be taking off the primary cover, "chasing" (cleaning with a special kind of tap/die set) the bolts/threads, I'd replace the gasket (while I've reused primary gaskets several times this one was leaking), and then reassemble in the proper sequence with fresh locktite...

Thanks guys, will replace it, was gonna change the primary fluid anyway.

As soon as my other bike (Triumph) is on the road I will do some things to the Fatboy like that, fork oil, install quick connect fuel crossover, replace rear wheel bla bla bla

You don`t need loctite on those screws, if torqued to the proper value they will not come loose.
