Smile How to put a Softail 2004 (NT) in transport mode???

Hi All, I have searched the internet but only found instructions for new HDs with fobs without a button. How do I put my 2004 Night Train in transportation mode? Thank you!

If it’s the fob with the push button I don’t believe there is a transport option. At least the manual doesn’t talk about it. If someone else knows any different, I would be interested also.

Look what I found:
A. If you have an older touring model with a button key fob (that you press to set the alarm)....
1. Turn the main Ignition switch to ON.
2. Press and hold key fob button until confirmation is received (turn signals flash 3 times).
3. Turn the main Ignition switch to OFF.
4. Press and hold key fob button until confirmation is received (turn signals flash 3 times).
5. The motorcycle can now be moved without triggering the alarm.
6. To reset the security system so the alarm sounds if the bike is moved, turn the main Ignition switch back to the IGNITION position.

Why do you have to have the alarm on when you’re going down the road ?

When the bike is trailered in transport mode, the ignition/starter remain immobilized, but the motion detector is deactivated. Helps prevent battery drain from the turn signals flashing every time the trailer hits a bump.

I agree. If it’s an open trailer, just arm the security when parked and away from towing vehicle. That’s what I do when trailering my 06.

Does the old button fob security system need to be manually armed with a push button on the fob, or does it arm automatically like the newer systems?

The older system will auto arm, but it differs from the proximity fob. In other words, it will auto arm (if enabled) upon ignition off, but a button push is required to disarm.

Trailering/towing is often painted with a broad brush. Everyone seems to have their preferred methods, whether it be tie downs, ramps, security settings etc. What works for some, doesn't necessarily apply to others. There are situations where transport mode is convenient, set it, and forgot it until arriving at the destination.

I never knew the older TSSM security systems had a transport mode... Thanks for finding this,... I'll be trying it out later today..

I also never knew the older TSSM security systems could be set to auto arm. I'll have to look that up in one of my older TSSM owner's manuals

I have two bikes with the TSSM security systems and the push button FOBs. I have owned one since 2003. I always thought they were just on/off with the push button FOB. This thread was a learning experience for me... I'll have to save this info.. Thanks to you both
