Ignition Module issue?
I have had an issue for a long time. I originally thought it was a fuel issue. I have rebuilt the carb—last year—same issue. This is what happens. After searching here, I cannot find anything that describes my exact situation. Here it is:
If the bike sits for a few days is when this is most pronounced:
After starting the bike—which fires off easily—about 1-2 minues into the ride, the bike bogs down like it is not getting fuel—like half power. The sound also changes like one cylinder is lost. I can throttle it UP and it accelerates, sort of, but it is like I am running on half power and it sounds like it is chugging. Then there is a slight pop through the tailpipe (not loud) as it kicks into full power mode and TAKES OFF with an immediate jerk. The change moment there is a jerk like everything is firing nicely and I rarely have the issue again on the ride. Sometimes, I have to turn off the bike and restart. Then all is fine. No it is not the ignition SWITCH. That’s new. All wiring on the front end has been replaced—rewired with Deutsch plugs. This used to happen more pronounced before I changed out the ignition switch—but it always happened even with the new switch.
As I noted, this usually happens when sitting for a day or so….but it also happens in lesser fashion after sitting for a few hours, and restarting—like after work.
I initially thought it was a fuel vacuum spot-as the fuel sort of dries up and created an air pocket. But, I am less sure now. I am starting to think it might be a small issue with the ignition module. Anyone ever have this issue? You can see I have an older Crane in it. Thinking of ordering the HI-4N.

Is your current module the "all in one inside the cone" type or external type? If external, check the cam position pickup for signs of weeping. Your symptoms are not typical of a bad CPS, but they do go bad and weird things can happen.
All in one inside the cone—with the wires coming out of the bottom hole.
I should say, I also have a new coil I have not tried yet, but my suspicion is the module since everything else has been changed, and the problem is persistent over the year. After the little pop/jerk everything runs swimingly from there on out.

It would be nice to know the bike model and year, Sounds like you might have an Evo but that's just speculation.... Cranes are known to go out just like that and the hi-4 ain't much better.. Get a Dynatek.. I like to go with an external ignition module and just a cam position sensor in the nose cone..

Sorry it is.. I would still go with the Dyna 2000 ignition module.. If you can find an external one and couple it with a Standard Motor Product MC-SPA1 or possibly the SPA2 can position sensor.. They're only $45.00. get the ignition module out of the heat, nose cone..
