Default Clicking sound

Iv got a 97 softail springer and there is a odd sounding click that is not in tune with the engine. If anyone has any ideas on what it is let me know.

Sounds can be really hard to diagnose.... even harder to do remotely on the internet. I couldn't tell much from the video, but my ears are old...

Is it just noticeable stopped at idle? Is it pronounced if you hit a bump in the road? Does it stop when the drive train is under load?

If it doesn't vary with engine rpm, start looking for loose objects... exhaust heat shields are a big one.

In the area you focused on your video, it could be shifter linkage..

Time to start touching stuff checking for a loose fit, and snugging up nuts and bolts....

Good luck with your diagnosis...

OK, I thought when you said, "not in tune with the engine", meant it wasn't dependent on rpm...

RPM dependent could be something loose or in the engine/drive train itself. It could be simple like an exhaust leak, or maybe more involved like lifters or rockers...

If you have a friend experienced with HD bikes and specifically an EVO engine, have them give it a good listen....

Otherwise I would suggest finding an Independent Shop with a good reputation, that can give you an opinion...

IMHO.... It could be so many things, you'll need some experienced ears to help zero in on what to check .....

Mine does it but it doesn’t hurt anything so I just ignore it.
