There were/are numerous dyno shops that use a dyno for carb tuning... both cars and bikes..

I put a Mercury V6 in a mini pickup with a cam, headers, and aftermarket carb/manifold, back when all OEM mini pickups were 4 cylinders, around 1983ish?... There was a dyno shop locally that tuned it up for me. That thing ran really well..

No, not that big....

It was a 2.6L V6, out of a Mercury Capri... I put it in a Chevy Luv pickup.. Thing was quick, but mostly I could pull my 3-wheeler trailer through the hills without downshifting..

Are you sure? See post #12. If a carbed bike can be dyno tuned for race prep, it can be tuned for the street.

true but most ppl who would have ridden carb bikes didn't bother to dyno tune and they run well. The race prep was like for those who built race motors and wanted all the safe power and obviously the safety of not tuning on the public road with a high performance Motor. So for the average rider, they won't spend that money and time, rather to ride on the street.

Well, now I'm not sure... 2.6L popped into my mind, but can't say for sure....

That was well before I became an **** record keeper.... I don't even have a pic of that truck with the engine..

I will say, that little truck ran awesome...

Then CARB passed the biannual smog tests.... and there was no "grandfather" clause for people who made mods prior to the law... I got caught at a biannual inspection and the VIN was tagged by CARB. CARB wanted me to custom make the brackets to add the smog pump and all emissions stuff for that year of engine in order to renew the registration... Probably would have cost me more than the thing was worth... I had to take it to Arizona to sell, but got a pretty good price for it there..
