In my "defence" I have to say that the pic is actually kind of "staged" and was cropped from a larger one.
Person taking the pic was my younger son (25) and he wasstanding in my driveway at the time.
I had just brought the bike home from the dealer less than a hour before.
I was still wearing my flannel lined jeans and boots.
AndI was justturning it around to ride it into the garage.
My garage is up about a 5 foot incline around 60 feet long.
I rode it up then, and continue to do so because I have no wish to give myself another heart attack trying to push that beast that far uphill.

I am not a fan of the shields either, but I don't like studs or leather accessories. I do think the bike gets pretty hot around the oil pan though.
I see everyone around me with no helmet jacket, or gloves and thought I was going overboard by gearing up every time I ride. I almost always ride with a jacket on, but always have jeans, gloves and a helmet.

I use this and it cuts the heat down quite a bit.
They are fromKuryakyn "Saddle Shields" I think you call them.
They are a see through smoke color,
from one direction they look tinted
and from another angle they look chrome.

Yep, I thought that pic looked a bit staged. I actually never ride without jeans and boots anymore but I still feel the heat thru my jeans on a hot day. When I first got this bike I tried wearing shorts a few times and thought my legs were getting fried. My friend has an 07 Roadking and he rides all the time in shorts and flipflops. Not my thing but he's been riding his whole life without a bad incident.

I may not alwasy wear my leatheer jacket on the bike, but I always wear at least jeans, boots, gloves and a helmet. Less than that and I don't go, period.
Funny part is that many people who know me think I'm a little nuts because even in 100+ degree weather I'm still running around in normal jeans and at least sneakers. The closest thing to a pair of shorts I have is a bathing suit, and I you can't pay meto wear flipflops, forget about trying to ride in them.

But IMHO itsnot a terrably bright idea, and sets a bad example for younger riders.I personallyrefuse to accept that kind of risk and responsability. It only takes one little "incident"to wreck your whole day, and it doesn't even have to be your fault. You just have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yeah I think they look a bit tacky and detract from what is otherwise a very cool looking unit!

Just got these new heat shields from RJS Originals. While they come in different designs, these have the blue & white studs to match my Deluxe paint scheme. I'm trying to decide if I like them. Some of my riding buddies say it's a bit gay but you can't tell if they're serious or yanking my chain. I might be taking a risk putting them on a Deluxe with the girls bike debate going on all the time. What do you all think?
