I'm sorry. I worded that wrong. He prob had 20K+ in his Heritage. So he lost 10 on that and forked out 11 for his EG Std.
I could take a 5 or 6 grand hit (not like it) for a bike I really "had to have" but 10 or more. That's tough.

byersmtrco, I know how you feel. I love my heritage, but would like to move upto an ultra. I looked around and seen what bikeswere going for used, and no way I can afford to lose that much. I never even listed my bike any where. I knew I would have to take a big loss. The more money you spend the more you lose. I knew that, so I am not complaining. I will just buy a sissybar bag, and keep on trucking.

put a 95 kit on, drop in a baker 6speed, change the tins.
Around 6k, and you have a smokin bike.
I have a 2005 deluxe, my plan is a 95 kit, cams, and maybe a 6 speed someday. I don't ride the freeway so a big maybe on the 6 speed.
Same money as or less as anew 2008, with no loss on the trade.
Just my opinion.

It is a motorcycle, not a bond...

wait a while until the 08s are more plentiful. then work a deal on a late year 07. also, try to pit different dealers against each other to see who wants your business.

Just a thought - in the UK there is no point inleavingall the shiny bits on as the dealer just values it as per their little black guides; its only a stage 1 that adds a bit and even then not what you paid. Might help a bit if you took all the bling off and sold it on e-bay and just traded a basic bike or as others have said sell private (more hassle of course). Good luck.
