Wow is all I can say. Yesterday I had a buddy drive me 200 miles to the dealer that I was buying from and I picked up my new night train. After an hour of paperwork in the office I was shaking hands with other hog members outside standing next to my bike. They all congradulated me on my new ride and told me it looked awsome. It was tough to keep it out of 5th gear for the first 50 miles, but I managed. After I rode for about 10 miles I pulled off to the side to call my wife and tell her the good news and another biker stopped to check out my bike and congradulate me. Awsome... I love the FI model but I know it's preference, it was just so nice to hit the ignition and fire that thing right up.
the only thing I was worried about was the dealer told me to ride five miles at 50mph then five miles at 55mph then five miles at 60 ect. all the way up to 70mph, then start over at 50 again. So I rode 200 miles home grinnin the whole time (with some screams in there for excitment) but anyways then I got home and watched the owners video and it said I should ride 55mph or under for the first 500 miles. sooo.....I'm wonderin how I should break the rest of this in, like the dealer said, or the video....any tips?
oh and this is the most beautiful bike I've ever seen, but I could say that about a lot of HD's
I'll post some pics up soon, right now my digital cam took a crap...damn....
just picked up my first harley yesterday. 05 softatil deluxe. dealer gave me the vid and ill watch it today. i hear you should take it easy for a while so that the engine does break in. i will be doing things the right way this time. im going to motorcycle safety scholl to get my lic
imboden, my dealer told me the same as you. I think it'll be fine as long as you vary speeds past the 50 mile marker, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
Imboden, that first 500 miles can be tough if you go by the book/video, but it does go fast, after that ride it like you stole it, Congrats on the new Scoot and I love your choice of color!!!!!!
after the first 50 -100 miles, I wouldn't worry about keeping at 55 or below - I'd ride it like I plan on riding normally, with the varying rpm's & speed for a little bit
When I got my ride last year my salesman told me just to ride it like I normally would but don't go to crazy for a little while and so that's what I did, I didn't wind it up to tight while going through the gear's and that was it. I've got 7200 mile's on mine now with no problem's, I'm sure your's will do the same. [sm=exactly.gif]
